Regis Prograis isn't impressed with one world champion.

After defeating Ismael Barroso earlier this year, Rolly Romero erased the misery of losing to Gervonta Davis in 2022 by becoming WBA champion at 140lbs.

The Las Vegas native had hoped to make a defence of his belt in December, but injury has forced the WBA to make him ‘champion in recess’ whilst Barroso takes on Ohara Davies in December for WBA interim status.

A leading fighter at super-lightweight, Romero can expect to defend his belt in 2024 but one rival in his weight class isn't impressed with Romero’s achievements.

Regis Prograis, who defends his WBC title against Devin Haney next month, has sat close to the top of the rankings for a number of years now and he’s launched a scathing attack on his fellow American.

“I would fight Rolly. Rolly is the saddest champion to be in boxing right now. Rolly is the worst champion in boxing right now,” said Prograis on The Last Stand podcast

“He got his ass dropped by that old-ass man. That man was 60-something years old, he got his ass whooped by that man. They gave it to Rolly.

“I can’t say in history, but current champions, Rolly is the saddest in the whole world.”
