It may be a brand new competition, but the Autumn Nations Cup heads into finals weekend with a pair of age-old rivals set to square off with silverware on the line.
England and France will contest the title of the maiden tournament on Sunday, after each side topped their respective groups with three wins from three contests (France was awarded a 28-0 default victory over Fiji on Nov. 15 after the latter's withdrawal from the group stage due to a COVID-19 outbreak).
Sunday's final will feature the top two teams from this year's Six Nations, as England and France finished the annual tourney first and second, respectively. The French handed England its only loss in that competition — a 24-17 stunner on Feb. 2 — although that result was earned in Paris. With Sunday's final taking place at London's famed Twickenham Stadium, the English will have a chance at revenge on home soil.
Prior to the England-France showdown, a trio of Saturday contests will take place to determine how the rest of the field will finish. Fiji finally gets onto the field in a 7th/8th place playoff with Georgia (7 a.m. ET), followed by Ireland hosting Scotland in Dublin (9:15 a.m. ET) with third place on the line. The third game of Saturday's tripleheader kicks off at 11:45 a.m. ET as Italy visits Wales at Parc y Scarlets in Llanelli for the 5th/6th place playoff.
