Lionel Messi is the frontrunner to win this year's men's award, which would be his eighth Ballon d'Or. Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is among Messi's biggest challengers for the coveted piece of hardware.
On the women's side, Spain's Aitana Bonmati is the leading candidate to win this year's edition.

The ceremony takes place at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France.
How does the voting work?
The voting process is based on a player's achievements during the 2022/23 season, ending 31 July.
A journalist from each of the top 100 nations in the FIFA world rankings is then asked to select their top five players from the 30-man shortlist and points are awarded for the following positions.
- First place: Six points
- Second place: Four points
- Third place: Three points
- Fourth place: Two points
- Fifth place: One point
If players are tied on overall points, the number of first-place votes serves as the tie-breaker.
