The former England striker had his say.

Former England and Newcastle striker Alan Shearer believes Gareth Southgate’s men will triumph against Serbia.

The Euro 2020 finalists meet Serbia on Sunday evening in their opening group game for the 2024 tournament in Germany.

A win would be a huge boost after a recent friendly loss to Iceland, and with Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dusan Vlahovic in attack, England are far from certain winners.

However, England have plenty of talent to call upon including Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham and Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane.

Speaking to Betfair, Shearer remained confident and thought they would win with two or goals.

He said: “I think England should win the game. Serbia have Mitrovic and Vlahovic up front, if they decide to go with those two.

“I think Mitrovic will definitely play, they will look to rain crosses in because that's what he wants and demands, and he gets all the goals for them.

“England should have far too much for them in forward positions so I would say England to win by two or three.

“Opening games are never easy, a lot of the time they're always cagey affairs, but I would think England can score two or three and win.”
