'All the stadiums want to sack me!' - Pep Guardiola reacts to Liverpool fans' cheeky chants in Manchester City loss

Pep Guardiola wants Liverpool supporters to know that they weren't breaking any new ground with their jeers.

Guardiola's Manchester City were beaten 2-0 by Premier League-leading Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, extending the Sky Blues' streak of futility to seven matches without a victory. It was also the fourth consecutive league loss for the powerhouse side, who are suffering the worst run of form since Guardiola took over as manager nearly a decade ago.

The result sees Liverpool claim a nine-point advantage at the top of the table, while City fall down to fifth place and are increasingly less likely to win their fifth straight Premier League crown. Given City's dominance over the English top flight under Guardiola, which has coincided with Liverpool's resurgence as an elite side, the Anfield faithful seemed to take extra pleasure in the Sky Blues' downfall and on Sunday they serenaded Guardiola with songs implying that he'd be "sacked in the morning," an unlikely prediction given the 53-year-old's standing as the most successful manager of his generation, by far.

Regardless, the Liverpool supporters' cheeky chants were heard by Guardiola, who responded by flashing six fingers at the crowd — presumably to indicate the number of Premier League titles City have won on his watch — and after the match he revealed that the jeering has grown across the league during City's poor run of form, although he didn't expect to hear it from the Anfield faithful.

"All the stadiums want to sack me, it started at Brighton!" Guardiola told Sky Sports. "Maybe they are right with the results we've been having.

"I didn't expect that at Anfield. They didn't do it at 1-0, but at 2-0. Maybe they should have sung it in the past.

"I didn't expect it from the people from Liverpool but it's fine, it's part of the game, and I understand completely. We've had incredible battles together. I have a respect for them."
