Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole believes that goalkeeper Andre Onana has been one of the team's best players this season.
United's 2023/24 campaign has been an underwhelming one. The Red Devils failed to get past the Champions League group stage, and with a place in next season's tournament out of reach, the team will look to salvage the season by reaching the FA Cup final if they can get past Coventry City in their semi-final clash on April 21.
Despite a raft of new names being brought into the squad, a number have failed to deliver, but after a shaky start in between the sticks, Cole has claimed that Onana, who arrived in the summer from Inter Milan, is starting to show his worth and has become a crucial part of Erik ten Hag's team.
"He’s definitely overworked at the moment and that’s why we’re talking about him," Cole told Betfred.
"He’s producing a hell of a lot of saves and many of them are ones that he shouldn’t even have to produce, but because Manchester United continue to give the ball away in certain areas so easily, the goalkeeper has been their MVP on a lot of occasions. He has unbelievable feet too.
“Fair play to him because he had a tough start, but now he’s starting to show what a good goalkeeper he is.”
United return to Premier League action on Saturday when they travel to Bournemouth, the Cherries were shock 3-0 winners when the two teams met in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford.
