Arsenal pulled off a 2-1 win over Tottenham in the North London derby at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, with Alexandre Lacazette's 64th-minute penalty kick the difference between the two sides.
Although the Gunners were dominant for long stretches of the match, they needed to overcome an early deficit as Erik Lamela's stunning 33rd-minute opener for Spurs forced Arsenal to find a way to convert the possession advantage into goals.
With Martin Odegaard's fortuitous equalizer coming just before the halftime break, the hosts were presented with the opportunity to grab a second-half lead, and that's exactly what happened when Lacazette was ruled to have been fouled by Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez despite the Arsenal attacker whiffing his shot attempt a split-second earlier.
Lacazette said after the match that the decision to award the penalty favoured Arsenal.
"Yes, we are lucky to get a penalty, I think," he told Sky Sports immediately after the match. "But sometimes it's good for us to have a good decision from the ref and I scored, so I'm happy."
France international Lacazette categorized standing over the ball and waiting to shoot against Spurs goalkeeper and countryman Hugo Lloris as "a bit stressful," but said the familiarity between the two men didn't diminish his confidence in scoring.
"Back in the days I shot a lot of penalties against him, but I was quite confident," Lacazette said.
