What a rollercoaster the last couple of weeks have been for Manchester United.
After battling back from a two-goal halftime deficit to defeat Atalanta 3-2 on Matchday 3 of the Champions League, the Red Devils were thrashed 5-0 at home a few days later by Liverpool. The aftermath of that Liverpool loss, coupled with other recent performances, put Ole Gunnar Solskjaer firmly on the hot seat.
Solskjaer then led his side to a rampant 3-0 victory at Tottenham over the weekend, flipping the narrative on its head and giving the embattled manager a reprieve.
Now United heads to Italy for another tilt with Atalanta, this time as the leader of Group F. "La Dea," as Atalanta's known, will be looking to exact a bit of vengeance for the most recent result, and United midfielder Bruno Fernandes beileves that the Serie A side is capable of doing some damage if the Red Devils aren't focused.
“They have players who can create lots of problems for us,” Fernandes said on Monday. “[Luis] Muriel and [Duvan] Zapata are really key players for them in the way that they play, but I also think that Atalanta is a strong team because they're a team of players, they draw their strength from being a group.
“This group has a huge belief in itself and a huge desire to do well, and I think that's probably the most important characteristic. As Ole said, [Atalanta manager Gian Piero] Gasperini gets this message over and I think this is the great strength of this team of players and the club.
“No one four or five years ago could have possibly thought Atalanta could be where they are today so it's a great credit to them.”
