Australia had perhaps the most memorable qualification for Qatar 2022.
Having to go through the intercontinental playoffs after failing to qualify directly from AFC, the Aussies faced Peru in a win-and-you're-in match in June famous for the "dancing goalkeeper." The Socceroos had played to a 0-0 draw with the Peruvians over 90 minutes plus extra time, and, just before the final whistle, inserted goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne specifically to play in the ensuing penalty shooutout. Redmayne's approximation of a car dealership's inflatable tube man drew all sorts of chatter online as the shootout was happening, but he managed to stop the deciding kick and soldified himself as an Internet meme.

Now, with the fun stuff over, the real work can begin for the Socceroos. Heading into their fifth consecutive World Cup, the Aussies are looking to advance out of the group stage for just the second time in their history. Facing a tough group, head coach Graham Arnold will be tasked to leading Australia to their first victory at a World Cup since South Africa 2010.

What stadiums will Australia play in at World Cup 2022?
All three of Australia's three group stage matches will be played at the Al Janoub Stadium.
Al Janoub Stadium
Home to Al-Wakrah SC of the Qatar Stars League, the Al Janoub Stadium features a retractable roof and 40,000 seats.
The stadium design is meant to invoke the history of the Al Wakrah area, and the seats invoke a wave pattern to emulate the sea. Having opened in 2019 the venue hosted the 2020 AFC Champions League final as well as six matches during the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup.
Seven matches will be held at the Al Janoub Stadium during the World Cup, after which it will be downsized to 20,000 seats.
