Australia and Republic of Ireland kick off Group B action at the 2023 Women's World Cup on Thursday.
The Aussies are co-hosts of the tournament, and as such have gathered phenomenal support as they look to get past the quarterfinals for the first time. The Matildas are favoured to top their group, and three points against the neophyte Irish side would go a long way towards that goal.
The Girls in Green are playing in their first-ever Women's World Cup, and have in fact never participated in a major international tournament before. They'll aim to not allow their lack of experience hinder their competitiveness, but it will be a tough task when their opening match at the WWC is against the co-hosts in front a sellout crowd at the 83,000-seat venue.
