Barcelona were deserving winners as they defeated Olympique Lyonnais 2-0 in the UEFA Women's Champions League final on Saturday.
Goals by Aitana Bonmatí and Alexia Putellas were enough to boost Barca to victory, as they wrapped up their second consecutive UWCL title (third overall).
The Catalans were dominant throughout the match, enjoying the lion's share of possession and spending large stretches in the Lyon half. However, Barca were stifled by an impressive Lyon defence for much of the game that didn't allow the opening goal until after the hour mark.
Bonmati's 63rd-minute opener was a result of a bit of luck as she had her shot deflected by a Lyon defender and over the goalkeeper, but it mattered little as Barcelona were the side most likely to score anyway.
Then, with the French side pushing for an equalizer, substitute Putellas put the result out of reach with a thumping shot just underneath the crossbar in stoppage time.
Barca had not defeated Lyon prior to Saturday and were runners-up to the French club in the 2019 and 2022 UWCL finals, so this weekend's victory represents a bit of payback in addition to being another continental championship for the Liga F giants.
