The 2023-24 Bundesliga campaign restarts Friday after a hiatus for the September international break.
The league couldn't have chosen a bigger match to resume action with than Bayern Munich vs. Bayer Leverkusen, as they are the last remaining teams in the circuit to boast perfect records through three matches.
Bayern have expectedly shot to the top of the table with three consecutive wins to start the season. However, their last match before the break was a nervy 2-1 comeback victory over Borussia Monchengladbach in which their opponents scored first and held Bayern off the scoreboard for nearly an hour. Goals by Leroy Sane and Mathys Tel secured the three points for the Bavarians, but it took a massive effort for Bayern to earn the victory.
Meanwhile, Leverkusen had no such worries as they hammered Darmstadt 5-1 in their final match before the international break. That followed a 3-0 victory at Monchengladbach and the season-opening 3-2 win over RB Leipzig, so Leverkusen could be seen as the team with the better form heading into Friday's match.
