Two goals from Marie-Antoinette Katoto helped Paris Saint-Germain secure a 2-1 lead in this quarter-final tie, but Klara Buhl's late free-kick has given her Bayern team a lifeline after what was a tight game in Munich.
As expected, the opening stages were cagey and it looked like Bayern would be the more likely to score.
Buhl’s goal bound shot in the 14th minute was blocked by PSG’s Amanda Ilestedt was the closest the German side came to taking the lead.
Then, just six minutes later, PSG took the lead through the prolific Katoto who poked the ball into Bayern’s net after Kadidiatou Diani hit the woodwork from a corner.
PSG then looked comfortable for the rest of the first half, restricting Bayern to half chances, but the French champions were forced into an early substitution.
Sara Dabritz, who was returning to Bayern for the first time since moving to the French capital, found herself on the wrong end of a clash of heads with Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir, she was replaced by Aminata Diallo.
The second half saw PSG start on the front foot. Kheira Hamaroui’s long range effort to make it 2-0 was saved in the 58th minute and then 13 minutes later it was 2-0 PSG. Once again it was Katoto with the goal, a perfect header from Sandy Baltimore’s corner saw the French champions take control.
The Bayern players however didn’t let their heads drop. They slowly increased the pressure on PSG and created a few chances. Come the 84th minute, the German champions were rewarded for their efforts with Buhl’s free kick on the edge of Barbora Votíková’s finding its way into the back of the net.
While the PSG players will be frustrated with conceding a late goal, the team will be full of confidence after restricting a Bayern team to very few chances, but the German side did show they have the capabilities to cause some problems.
It’s all set for an exciting second leg in Paris next week where PSG hold a slender 2-1 lead.
