Manchester City is into the semifinal of the Champions League after claiming a 1-2 victory at Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
The Sky Blues won the aggregate 4-2, after a 2-1 victory last week in Manchester.
Despite an early goal Wednesday by 17-year-old Jude Bellingham, Dortmund wasn't able to keep City from securing advancement to the next round. Second-half goals by Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden powered Pep Guardiola's crew to the win.
Bellingham put the hosts ahead at the quarter-hour mark, stepping into a juicy rebound and blasting his effort high into the City net. The goal made the English teenager Dortmund's youngest scorer in the history of the Champions League.
The lead stood through the halftime break as Dortmund had grounds to believe that an aggregate victory was possible. However, City found an equalizer 10 minutes after the restart following Emre Can's handball in the box. The Dortmund midfielder was attempting to clear a cross, but he seemed to get caught between two minds as he stooped low to attempt a header and ended up knocking the ball onto his own arm.
After a lengthy VAR check, Mahrez stepped up to the spot and made no mistake, levelling the match and putting City ahead on aggregate.
Dortmund immediately looked to regain the lead, and nearly broke through with a point-blank Matts Hummels header in the 69th minute, but the increased pressure didn't amount to anything for the home side. Instead, it was City that would score next, with Foden hitting a booming shot in the 75th minute that put the match, and the tie, beyond doubt.
