Canada ends its three-matches-in-six-days sprint through the September international break with a match against El Salvador.
The Canadians are coming off a comeback 1-1 draw in the United States, which put the Canucks on two points after the first two matches of CONCACAF's final round of World Cup qualification. Thursday's draw lifted the spirits of a nervous Canadian fanbase after the team battled to an identical scoreline three days earlier in Toronto against Honduras.
Now John Herdman's side is back on home soil, looking to pick up a crucial win before the players head back to their clubs. Canada's lost just once at home to the Salvadorans (way back in 1992) and hasn't fallen to the Central American nation in World Cup qualifying since the late '90s, but the most recent meeting between the sides was an October 2017 1-0 friendly win for El Salvador in Houston, Texas.
The Canadians will be without talisman Alphonso Davies, who has returned to Bayern Munich after suffering a leg injury during the match against the U.S., but some of the team's best overall play in recent memory has come during the recent Gold Cup without the 20-year-old.
If Herdman can get his side to play to similar levels once again, then the team could reasonably expect to leave BMO Field with all three much-needed points.
