Canada lost their third successive Qatar World Cup group game when they fell 2-1 to Morocco on Thursday.

The result means that the North Africans will play in the knockout stages of the World Cup for the first time in the last 36 years.

The win meant Morocco topped the group, finishing above Croatia, who claimed second place to also go through.

Belgium join Canada on the plane home after finishing third, with the North Americans taking the wooden spoon.

A mistake on four minutes from Canadian goalkeeper Milan Borjan allowed Chelsea playmaker Hakim Ziyech to put Morocco ahead.

Youssef En-Nesyri made it 2-0 when he converted from Achraf Hakimi's assist, before Nayef Aguerd scored an own goal to give Canada hope.

Atiba Hutchinson hit the crossbar with a header, but Morocco were able to hold on for victory.
