One of John Herdman's biggest desires for Canada was to pit the team against what he calls a "tier 1 opponent."
The Canadians had a dream run through World Cup qualifying, booking the nation's place in the quadrennial for the first time in 36 years. Yet despite Canada's stellar play in qualifying, and its dominant display against World Cup host Qatar last week, Herdman was still looking forward to seeing his team tested by a traditional power.
The head coach gets his wish on Tuesday, as the Canadians face Uruguay in a glamour friendly in Slovakia.

Ranked 13th in the world, the South American side boasts the likes of Luis Suarez, Darwin Nunez and Federico Valverde among its ranks. It's the type of talent that Herdman wants to see his players go up against as they look to continue their good form on the biggest stage on the planet.
With just one more friendly on the schedule for the Canadians after this one, there is precious little time left to impress. A good performance against the Uruguayans would go a long way.
