Two of the giants of CONCACAF clash in chilly Hamilton, Ont., as Canada hosts the United States on Matchday 10 of the region's final World Cup qualifying round.
The match will be played with an expected temperature of -6 degrees Celsius at kickoff, feeling like -10 with the windchill. Ironically, it's the Americans who come into this game acclimatized to the frigid conditions, after they defeated El Salvador in Columbus, Ohio, on Thursday. They head to Hamilton having already spent nearly a full week in wintry weather, while Canada returns to home soil after their 2-0 win in tropical Honduras on the same day.
While the weather will be a big talking point among fans and the media, especially coming on the heels of a successful two-game homestand by the Canadians in November in Edmonton, neither team will be particularly bothered by the cold. If anything, the artificial pitch at Tim Hortons Field will have a bigger impact on the match, especially if it freezes over.

In the stands, the crowd has been reduced to 50 percent capacity due to current COVID-19 restrictions in Ontario. The 24,000-seat home of the CFL's Tiger-Cats and Forge FC of the CPL will welcome 12,000 fans, who will be tasked with making up for the other 12,000 who are no longer allowed to attend. Given that it's a cross-border rivalry match, and the teams stand first and second on the table, fan enthusiasm is not something that will be lacking.
On the field, there's little separating the sides based on their play to this point. The teams last met in September in Nashville, Tennessee, when they battled to a 1-1 draw, and while another such result would be disappointing, it wouldn't be the worst outcome given Canada and the USA's respective places in the standings.
