Cup soccer makes its final appearance of 2021 as the Carabao Cup quarterfinals take place this week.
As usual, the remaining teams are mostly from the Premier League, although League One side Sunderland will fly the flag for the lower divisions. The Black Cats have a huge test in front of them as they travel to Emirates Stadium on Tuesday to face red-hot Arsenal, who have won three straight games in the top flight.
The other three matches of the round are scheduled for Wednesday, two of which are London derbies. Brentford host Chelsea in a game that seems like a mismatch on paper, but the Blues' issues with COVID-19 will severely limit Thomas Tuchel's selection, and the previous meeting between the clubs produced a narrow 1-0 victory for Chelsea back on Oct. 16.
Nearby, Tottenham will host West Ham as Spurs look to regain their momentum following a two-week layoff due to COVID-19. Tottenham looked sharp against Liverpool in their return to league action over the weekend, and will hope to maintain that intensity against the visiting Hammers.
Finally, Leicester City visit Liverpool in the first of two matches between the teams in a six-day period. After the clubs meet at Anfield on Wednesday, they're scheduled to square off again on Dec. 28 at King Power Stadium in the Premier League.
