Louis Saha didn't expect to see Raheem Sterling swap Chelsea blue for Arsenal red.

But he understands.

Sterling found himself at the forefront of a summer transfer window saga when new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca froze him out of the West London club's first team to start the season and publicly stated that Sterling would not "get any minutes" unless he moved on.

That's exactly what the 29-year-old did, heading to North London to reunite with Mikel Arteta at a club that finished second in the Premier League in each of the last two seasons.

For Saha, the choice was a natural one for Sterling, especially following Maresca's comments.

“I’m surprised that Raheem Sterling joined Arsenal, but it’s a very good move for him," Saha told Paddy Power. "He did not feel respected at Chelsea.

“The way that Chelsea treat people is not very nice. Someone like Sterling, he is not going to just sit there and not play. Therefore, it is right to look elsewhere, like Arsenal, where they are playing well. They have a style of play that suits Sterling. We know how well he can adapt, especially in such a team - Chelsea need to accept that.”
