The Championship is as tight as ever, with just eight points separating the top six in the league, and at the bottom things are getting just as clustered.

This weekend will be a big weekend for Wayne Rooney, who's coming under increasing pressure at Plymouth, while former England teammate Frank Lampard looks for his first win as Coventry boss at Millwall.

Here's a look at this week's biggest story in the division and a look ahead to the weekend's action.

The talking point

It was a rare midweek off for the Championship this past week, but it's Hull City where the biggest story is as they get set to appoint a new manager.

The Tigers binned off Tim Walter just 17 games into his reign, with the club in the bottom three and now look set to replace him with Reading boss Ruben Selles.

Selles has managed to ignore the background noise at Reading and steer the club to sixth in League One but is now set to leave the Royals for the vacant Championship post.

The pick of the weekend

Leeds United vs. Derby

A game that can't help but have a nostalgic feel to it, especially to those of a vintage who remember a rivalry created by Brian Clough's move between the title-chasing clubs of the 1970s.

In more modern times, the rivalry renewed thanks to Frank Lampard and Marco Bielsa's 'Spygate' of 2019, but they go into this one with ambitions at different ends of the table this season.

Leeds were knocked off of the top spot last weekend thanks to their surprising defeat to Blackburn, and with Sheffield United not playing until Sunday, a win could take them back to the summit.

Derby, meanwhile, having been promoted last season, remain clear of the relegation battle but do come into this game off the back-to-back defeats and without a win in their last five.
