Chelsea take a needed break from the Premier League to host Blackburn Rovers in the Carabao Cup round of 16 on Wednesday.

The Blues are mired in 11th place in the league standings and headed in the wrong direction while winless in two matches. They host a Blackurn side in a similar situation, albeit in the EFL Championship.

Blackburn are 12th in the second-tier league but they have won three of their last four fixtures and are looking for an upset when they travel to London.

For Chelsea, the match against a lower level opponent is an opportunity to gain confidence and sharpness ahead of some extremely tough Premier League games on the immediate horizon.

"It’s important for us to go forward in this competition, to build momentum, and after go to Tottenham and receive Manchester City with the trust and the confidence we can beat them also," Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino said of Wednesday's match.
