Stop us if you've heard this one before: Lionel Messi is the best player at a major international tournament.
Argentina's generational superstar leads the 2021 Copa America with four goals, and he'll be looked upon to once again guide his team to a final. Standing in the way of Messi and Co. is a Colombia side that hasn't been lighting up the fields in Brazil this summer, but one that still has shown enough to give the Argentines real reason for caution.
The Albiceleste started slowly but have gradually picked up steam as the competition wore on, led by, as usual, Messi's all-world talent. However, this Argentina team seems a bit more pragmatic than those who famously failed throughout Messi's career thus far, and it will be tasked with taking down a stubborn Colombia side in Tuesday's semifinal.
Los Cafeteros only one won of their four group-stage matches, getting through as Group B's third-place finisher. They haven't won in regulation since their opening match, scraping past Uruguay in the quarterfinals via a penalty shootout after a scoreless 120 minutes.
Will that scrappy (and lengthy) quarterfinal match three days previous still weigh on Colombia's legs, or can they become the latest team to stop Messi in his 15-year quest to win a major international trophy with Argentina?
