Here are the five biggest transfers that took place on Deadline Day.

The end of the summer transfer window is always a frenzied period as teams rush to add one or two impact pieces early into their seasons.

With COVID-19 pushing the entire calendar back by several weeks, this year's Deadline Day came in early October. Despite the later date, it was business as usual as sides big and small shored up for a condensed fall of domestic action.

Many teams made big purchases earlier in the window, but Deadline Day still gave us some big-money moves.

Here are the top five Deadline Day moves, by transfer fee:

1. Thomas Partey, €50 million (Arsenal)

The Gunners had already brought in several players earlier in the window as Mikel Arteta continues his rebuilding project at the Emirates Stadium.

It wasn't until the final day of the transfer window that Arsenal landed its big fish: Ghanaian midfielder Partey. The now-former Atletico Madrid man had a €50 million release clause in his contract that the North London side met, freeing him up to join the Gunners on a salary reportedly worth more than £200,000 per week.

A much-needed ball-winner in the middle of the park, Partey comes into Arteta's side as the player with the highest dribble success rate during the 2019-20 La Liga season, and he had the third-most possessions won in the middle third during the Spanish domestic campaign.

2. Federico Chiesa, €50 million (Juventus)

The Bianconeri landed the 22-year-old Italy national team attacker in a deal that spreads out the financial hit over several years.

Juve announced Monday that it will pay €3 million to Fiorentina for the current season and €7 million during 2021-22 before an additional €40 million is paid out over an additional three-year period for Chiesa's player rights (assuming "certain given sporting objectives" are met).

Fiorentina could collect another €10 million if Chiesa reaches performance-related clauses in the deal, pushing the potential total fee to €60 million.

3. Amad Diallo Traoré, €41 million (Manchester United)

This is one for the future as the18-year-old made just three appearances (30 minutes total) in Serie A with Atalanta.

The Manchester Evening News reported that United paid £19 million (€21 million) up front to Atalanta with £18.1 million (€20 million) in add-ons for a winger with loads of potential. Traoré will join the Red Devils in January but agreed to the deal now as the Premier League prepares to adapt to new rules for signing young foreigners in the aftermath of Brexit.

4. Ben Godfrey, €27.5 million (Everton)

It's a surprise that Everton sits atop the Premier League after four weeks of play, and the Toffees pulled off another league-leading move when they landed Deadline Day's most expensive defender.

Godfrey joins Carlo Ancelotti's side from second-tier Norwich City on a reported €27.5 million transfer fee, helping to shore up an already-stout Everton defense that has allowed five goals in four matches thus far.

Godfrey, 22, told the club's official website that he's eager to work with a coach of Ancelotti's caliber.

"The manager’s past speaks for itself," Godfrey said. "He has worked with some top-class center backs. I will be able to learn so much from him and he is going to help me get to that next level, which is where I want to be."

5. Jeremy Doku, €26 million (Stade Rennais)

It may be strange to see Stade Rennais among the big buyers on the final day of the transfer window, but the Ligue 1 club sold Raphinha to Leeds United for a cool €17 million on Monday and had some financial wiggle room for the Doku deal.

Doku heads to Rennes from Belgian club Anderlecht after receiving some interest from Liverpool, but the 18-year-old will find less competition for crucial playing time with les Rouge et Noir. The teenager has already made two appearances for the Belgium national team.
