United continue to struggle this year.

Former Liverpool striker Dean Saunders thinks that the club under Jurgen Klopp make Manchester United ‘look like they play in slow-motion.’

Liverpool top the Premier League title race as Klopp enters the final months of his time at Anfield, and he could deliver them his third major trophy, having won both the league and the Champions League already.

United did well in Erik ten Hag’s first season but they sit eighth now and are beset by problems on and off the field, and a 4-2 win over Newport County on Sunday night in the FA Cup offered little succour.

Speaking to Mega Dice, Saunders compared the two sides.

He said: “I watched Liverpool beat West Ham 5-1 in the League Cup last month, and Liverpool kept catching West Ham in transition. They did the same thing against Newcastle on New Year's Day.

“Liverpool manage to make good teams look bad because they work so hard. If you watched Man United and Liverpool play at the same time, then keep an eye on the work rate of [Mo] Salah, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and all of the midfielders. Those six players all work harder than Man United's!

“Man United look as if they play in slow-motion. They have no belief they'll get the ball back. Jurgen Klopp now has another group of players who, at the minimum, have to sprint until they can't anymore. They're all athletes.

“However, Man United have new backers, and they'll get them out of the mess they're in. They'll get the best players and they'll pay to keep them there.

“The cycle is starting to turn. United have a massive fanbase and a lot of money, and challenging for the league is a matter of when, not if.”
