Declan Rice identifies what England need to improve upon before Euro 2024DAZN
The Three Lions lost their final match before the tournament kicks off.

England's final match before Euro 2024 did not go as planned, with the Three Lions falling 1-0 to Iceland at Wembley on Friday.

It wasn't due to lack of effort — Gareth Southgate's side held a big possession advantage and created more shots than their visitors.

But when Jón Dagur Þorsteinsson scored in the 12th minute, England had no answers. Midfielder Declan Rice summed up his team's performance as "chasing your tail a little bit," and should the Three Lions hope to go one better than an appearance in the final this time around they'll need to improve upon making the most of their possession.

That's the biggest takeaway Rice had from Friday's match, along with maintaining concentration, with just nine days until England start their tournament.

"There's no doubt about our quality on the ball as a collective," Rice told Channel 4 minutes after the final whistle.

"Maybe against the teams that sit in it's about being a bit mentally switched on.

"I felt at times we were a little stretched, not as compact as we usually are. Inside I'm hurting and between now and the next game there's work to be done."
