Dietmar Hamann believes Jurgen Klopp is the man who could put England over the top in their pursuit of a first major trophy in nearly 60 years.

The Three Lions were runners-up at Euro 2024, the second straight European Championship in which they played in the final but could not secure the trophy. They were also semi-finallists at the 2018 World Cup, which began their recent run of lengthy stays at international tournaments.

Gareth Southgate, the man who guided England through those competitions, stepped down as manager on Tuesday, creating one of the most coveted job openings in the sport as the FA will now begin the search to replace the 53-year-old.

Hamann, who played for several Premier League clubs and represented Germany 59 times, says England won't need to look far for an ideal replacement as Klopp, who walked away from Liverpool this summer following the end of his contract, is the best man for the job less than two years before the World Cup in North America.

"On paper, Jurgen Klopp is best placed to lead England to World Cup glory in 2026 because of what he did at Liverpool," Hamman told TopOffshoreSportsBooks. "He managed to win the Premier League and two Champions League titles, with the squad he had he did wonderful things.

"I think with the squad England have got now and also the age of the players, I think they'll be a force for the next two or three tournaments. Obviously the next World Cup is in two years' time.

"It's certainly something which could get England fans dreaming."

Hamman added: "Years ago it would have been hard to imagine a German manager in England but the chances have never been better than it’s going to happen in the next few months."
