If Manchester United are entertaining the thought of pursuing Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon this summer, Dwight Yorke says they should abandon the idea.

Gordon has been linked with a move to Liverpool during the current transfer window, with former United striker Teddy Sheringham urging the Red Devils to make their own offer for the 23-year-old England international.

However, Yorke doesn't agree with his fellow Red Devils alumnus, as the retired treble winner believes Gordon would be a downgrade from what Erik ten Hag already has at his disposal.

Speaking to BoyleSports, who offer the latest Premier League Betting, Yorke explained that he feels Marcus Rashford is superior to his would-be replacement.

"Manchester United could look to replace Marcus Rashford with Anthony Gordon but is he better than Rashford?" Yorke said. "I don’t think so. Rashford has got the edge on him, look what he was doing the season before last.

"Anthony Gordon is a very exciting young player, there are no two ways about that. You could see the intensity in how he plays, but Rashford has got all those attributes. Give me Rashford over him any day.

"If Rashford is playing the way he can play, he makes Anthony Gordon look bang average. United just need a way to get him back to his best.

"Rashford at the level he has shown in the past is so exciting to watch and we have to find a way of getting him to play back to that level again.

"He's in the prime of his career and he will be coming into the prime of his life. He needs to find that love and that passion, that desire to play football and want to be doing it week in, week out for Manchester United."
