Phil Foden is the front-runner for the Ballon d'Or, but Emmanuel Petit believes Cole Palmer has an outside shot at the annual award.
Foden has enjoyed a stellar campaign as a key cog of Manchester City's attack as the club won yet another Premier League title, and Petit calls the young England star "the main contender" for the top individual prize in football.
However, the retired World Cup winner feels there could be a situation in which Chelsea star Palmer could surpass his Three Lions teammate for the next award.
Speaking on behalf of BoyleSports, who offer the latest Euro 2024 betting, Petit explained how Palmer could eventually put himself in the running for the Ballon d'Or and even laid out how the 22-year-old could win it within a year.
"I think Cole Palmer can win the Ballon d’Or, but he must play on the winning team," Petit said.
"He could even win the Ballon d’Or in 2024 if he smashes the Euros, but he’s up against Foden who is the main contender."
