Some of Chelsea’s performances this season have drawn criticism from their former players as they've struggled to maintain consistency.
Despite securing draws with Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool, the London club have had to endure afternoons of misery with their recent 4-1 defeat to Newcastle perhaps the lowest point.
At St James’ Park, Chelsea were heavily beaten by Eddie Howe’s side and their misery was increased when Reece James was sent off.
The England defender is Chelsea’s skipper, but that hasn’t stopped Emmanuel Petit, the ex-Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder, from hitting out at James for his early exit from the game.
“I expected more from Reece James against Newcastle. He is the captain of Chelsea, the leader of the team, and he lost his head,” said Petit when speaking to Lord Ping .
“He is an international player playing for one for the biggest clubs in the world, everyone is right to expect more from him. Also, he has spent such a long time on the treatment table. when he is on the pitch, he has to behave like a captain.”
