England is in the Euro 2020 final thanks to a 2-1 extra-time win over a scrappy Denmark side at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday.
The Danes proved to be a formidable foe throughout the match, scoring first and forcing the 30 extra minutes in front of a charged crowd at the London venue.
Mikkel Damsgaard's stunning free-kick at the half-hour mark put the visitors on top, but Simon Kjaer would knock the ball into his own team's net after at the end of a fantastic attack involving Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling just nine minutes later to bring England on level terms.
For the rest of regulation time, the English were the superior side in terms of possession and creating chances, but the Danes were sturdy in defense while also counterattacking when possible. Neither side could find the goal through the remainder of the 90 minutes, requiring extra time for the second straight day at Wembley.
Unlike Tuesday's Italy-Spain semifinal, Wednesday's contest was decided within the extra time period. Sterling created havoc inside the Danish 18-yard box in the 103rd minute that resulted in a penalty kick.
Kane stepped up to the spot, and though Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel saved his initial effort, he managed to pounce on the rebound and easily slot home the winner.
The Danes had already looked spent in the lead-up to the Kane goal, and with the stadium erupting, it was clear that England would ride the emotional high through the rest of the match.
England moves on to face Italy in the final on Sunday in London.
