Which Premier League midfielder could be on the move in January?

Former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson has backed Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips to sign for Liverpool in the January transfer window.

Since moving to City from Leeds United in July 2022, Phillips has struggled to break through and become a regular starter for Pep Guardiola's team. In 2022-23, Phillips started just two Premier League games, often facing criticism from his manager.

Phillips has battled injury issues and questions over his weight, allied to the challenge of breaking into Europe's best team. So far this season, Phillips has made just four substitute appearances in the league.

With an upcoming European Championships next summer, Phillips might need a move, and Glen Johnson has said that a move to Liverpool could suit the former Leeds star.

Speaking to Betfred, Johnson said, "If the price is right. I like him, and he’s that sort of player who is happy to sit in that deep midfield role, win the ball back and feed it back to someone else."

Liverpool have overhauled their midfield this season, and Phillips could add another dimension to Jurgen Klopp's team.

However, Johnson did caveat his comments with the following statement,, "I do think he would fit the bill, but not if you’re talking £50 to £60 million when he’s hardly played."
