Manchester United did what they needed to do to secure a 2-0 victory at Wigan Athletic on Monday.

The match was a third round FA Cup fixture, pitting the third tier Latics against the Red Devils.

As expected, United were in control for most of the match and went ahead via a Diogo Dalot strike in the 22nd minute. Bruno Fernandes then scored a penalty in the 74th minute to put the result beyond doubt.

While the Red Devils will be happy with the result, manager Erik ten Hag felt that the score should have been higher for his side.

However, he praised his players for being able to pull out the victory despite their lack of sharpness in front of goal.

"In the first half I think we created five or six very good chances," Ten Hag told ITV. "I think it was very good football.

"We should have taken more, but if you don't score you have to stay focused and I think we did that tonight."

While there were some things he would like to have seen his team do better, Ten Hag expressed satisfaction with the overall performance.

"The FA Cup is all about winning, it is knockout," he said. "You want to finish the job. That is what I said in the dressing room, 'job done'."
