The January transfer window is in full swing and the number one priority for some of the Premier League's top clubs is finding someone who can put the ball in the back of the net.
Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal have all struggled for goals at times this season, with the lack of a typical number nine cited as one of the main reasons for their struggles in front of goal.
With strikers often priced at a premium, clubs could perhaps look for a short-term fix to bolster their attacks. Here are five veteran forwards who could possibly fit the bill.
Karim Benzema
The French striker has reportedly failed to settle at Al-Ittihad since his move to Saudi Arabia last summer and is a player who has been linked with a Premier League move in the past. Real Madrid were reluctant to let the 36-year-old leave last year and even a short loan move back to Europe could provide a club with a world-class striker - and former Ballon d'Or Winner.
Roberto Firmino
Another forward who has struggled to adapt to life in the Saudi Pro League and could be tempted for a short-term return to the Premier League. While the Brazilian was less prolific in his final years at Liverpool, he is a proven Premier League forward and his link-up play would be of huge benefit to any side in the top-four race.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting
Forget the player who scored just five goals in 32 games during his stint with Stoke City, Choupo-Moting has become a much bigger goal threat during his time with PSG and Bayern Munich. The Cameroonian has netted 38 times for Bayern since joining in 2020, but with the arrival of Harry Kane in Germany is looking for more football and could provide a worthy Plan B for teams.
Danny Ings
Ings' move to West Ham hasn't worked out for the former England striker, and has only scored three times for the Hammers since his move from Aston Villa a year ago. However, there's no doubting the 31-year-old's ability at putting the ball into the back of the net and maybe a move to new surroundings is just what the player needs.
Paulo Dybala
There was a time when a move for the Argentinian ace would have broken the bank, but the tricky forward could now be available for a more cut-price deal. The Roma man is vastly experienced, and for a reported release cause of around £12 million, you'd be getting a big game player who's only just turned 30.
