Former Arsenal defender William Gallas believes there is more to meets the eye over the decision to drop Aaron Ramsdale.
Mikel Arteta had given Ramsdale the starting role between the sticks last season but then brought in David Raya from Brentford, initially on loan but with the expectation that a deal will be made permanent for the Spaniard.
Ramsdale has found himself in and out of the side at the Emirates, and his father has expressed his concern over his future. All this has led to speculation that he will leave the club.
Speaking to Genting Casino, Gallas suggested that something has happened between the England international and his club manager that has led to him losing his spot.
He said: “What happened between Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsdale? What happened?
“Something must have happened between them or between Ramsdale and the club because it’s very difficult to understand how this guy was dropped after giving Arsenal two really good seasons.
“After those performances, now he is on the bench. Something must have happened at the club. What is certain is that something must have gone on.
“I’m sorry. You can’t put a goalkeeper who had two great seasons with the club on the bench like Arteta has done.”
