It was another season of heavy spending.

Former Arsenal defender William Gallas has identified the problem with the current side’s setup, and believes there is little chance they will reach the Champions League.

Another window of heavy spending under Todd Boehly is yet to show tangible benefits as Mauricio Pochettino looks to build a team capable of matching their transfer fees.

However, Gallas praised Enzo Fernandes and thinks that Chelsea have too many players, and too many young players.

He told Gambling Zone: “Fernandes has unbelievable quality with his passing range. We know Chelsea have some brilliant young players. The biggest problem that Chelsea has is that there are too many young players that are all learning and adapting at the same time.

“There has been so much change over the course of a year within the club. The dressing room is full of new players who are learning all the time. We know that it will take time for this group to gel together and to start competing for the Premier League title again.

“This season Chelsea won’t qualify for the Champions League because if they have to play against one of the better teams in the league, they will be in trouble.”
