Former Brazil star says rejection by big-name manager 'the best thing' for Selecao

Former Brazil star says rejection by big-name manager 'the best thing' for SelecaoDAZN

Legendary football manager Carlo Ancelotti was courted by Brazil last year, but the Italian ultimately decided to sign a contract extension with Real Madrid through 2026.

That ruled Ancelotti out of the running for the Brazil job after he had long been linked with the position.

While a manager of Ancelotti's stature would've seemed a perfect fit for the most successful national team in the world, a former Brazil player says it was the right call by the 64-year-old.

Julio Baptista, who donned the famous yellow and blue kit 47 times and won the Copa America twice, explained to Oddspedia that Ancelotti's decision can work out for both the manager and Brazil.

"It’s not embarrassing for Brazil that Carlo Ancelotti decided to stay at Real Madrid, he’s an incredible manager so Brazil got in contact to see what his plans were," Baptista said.

"But at the same time we have some incredible Brazilian coaches who can manage the national team. Ancelotti is doing the best thing in continuing with Real Madrid.

"I think what is most important is that we have time to create the new national team with the new generation so we can compete for major honours."
