Celtic legend Gordon Strachan has backed the Australian to shine.

New Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has taken the Premier League by storm in his first weeks in the job, but suffered a chastening first defeat against Chelsea on Monday night.

Despite the 4-1 humbling of nine-man Spurs, fellow former Celtic boss Gordon Strachan believes that Postecoglou has shown that he is the new Jurgen Klopp.

The German was greeted as a breath of fresh air in his first season as Liverpool manager, injecting his energy and attacking principles into a Premier League struggling under the moribund influence of tacticians like Tony Pulis, Louis van Gaal and Rafa Benitez.

Strachan thinks that Postecoglou is having the same effect.

Speaking with ICE36, Strachan explained: "Ange Postecoglou is the new Klopp in terms of his popularity.

"When Klopp first came along, we enjoyed it because it was something new and fresh. Ange has picked up the baton since then, which is great.

"I’m absolutely delighted for him. In a short space of time, he has charmed everyone. He’s given his players the freedom to attack – when was the last time you saw Ben Davies getting that far up the pitch and scoring a goal?"

How Postecoglou responds to this first bump in the road remains to be seen, but he certainly has the full backing of Strachan.
