Chelsea are in the middle of the pack of the Premier League and their goal scoring reflects their standing in England's top flight.

The Blues have scored 44 goals through 26 league matches, which puts them ahead of 12 other sides. It's not enough production for a club with much bigger ambitions, and the London side's attackers have come under scrutiny for their lack of goal scoring this season.

Among those drawing attention is Nicolas Jackson, the former Villarreal man who joined Chelsea on a long-term deal ahead of the season. Jackson was expected to provide an attacking spark at Stamford Bridge, and while he's scored eight league goals in 23 appearances, it was hoped that the 22-year-old would be more prolific at this point of his integration into the Chelsea side.

One former Chelsea player thinks the situation is more dire than it may appear for Jackson, stating that the Senegal international needs to increase his production or see his playing time diminish.

Speaking to Lord Ping, William Gallas explained exactly what Jackson needs to do to hold on to his spot among Chelsea's starters.

"Nicolas Jackson has to prove [himself] now," Gallas said. "If he doesn't reach between 15 and 20 Premier League goals, it will be difficult for him to keep a place in the team next season. Chelsea will sign a new striker.

"He has to take his opportunities now, whilst he has them, he needs to work very hard and become more consistent. That's what it takes to play at a big club like Chelsea."
