The defender's move surprised many.

William Gallas is baffled by Bayern Munich’s transfer move for Eric Dier.

Bayern had a busy transfer window this January and one of the names that arrived from Dier, from Premier League side Tottenham.

Harry Kane’s former team-mate has now once again linked up with the striker and the versatile defensive player was one of a number of Premier League sides that Thoms Tuchel was reportedly interested in.

The Germans are chasing Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the Bundesliga as they look to maintain their exceptional winning streak.

Gallas, who played at Spurs as well as Chelsea and Arsenal in the Premier League, was not certain that the player had earned the move based on his recent performances.

He told Genting Casino : ”When I saw that Eric Dier was joining Bayern Munich, I didn’t know what to think. I was shocked! I couldn’t believe it.

“I don’t know what to say (about this move). Football is changing, its simple. Football has changed a lot. It looks like players can join clubs without having their performances scrutinised. It looks like it’s about connections and personal relationships.

“If we speak about Dier’s performances, they haven’t been of the level that would normally attract a big club like Bayern Munich. He has been a substitute for most of the season at the club.

“I’m happy for him. I think it’s a good move for him. I’m not sure how many minutes he will play and perhaps his game will be better suited to the demands of the German league. When you watch him play as a centre back in the Premier League, the standard of the game and the intensity was too much for him. Perhaps the Bundesliga will be a better fit.”
