Danny Mills has called on England players to take some of the heat off manager Gareth Southgate after their underwhelming start to Euro 2024.
The Three Lions are top of Group D and only need a point to progress to the knockout stage. However, their performances have come under criticism, with players already clashing with the media following some disjointed displays against Serbia and Denmark.
Talking to BetVictor, former England international Mills, says the squad need to burden some of the blame, because what he's seen hasn't been good enough so far in Germany.
"We've had two poor performances and the players have now got to step up and take some responsibility," he said.
“Phil Foden, the best player in the Premier League, Jude Bellingham, potential Ballon d'Or nominee, Declan Rice, a magnificent £100million Arsenal midfield player - they might be young, but they've proven they can do it.
“They haven't done it in the past two games, so they've got to find a way and simplify things. If things aren't quite going well, don't try and do too much, go back to basics and do the fundamentals right.
“Against Denmark, players were trying too hard, trying too many passes and looking to take on too many players. They were making the wrong decisions.”
