The striker is back in the top flight.

Former Arsenal and Leicester striker Alan Smith is unsure that Jamie Vardy can cut it in the top flight any longer.

Vardy was one of the Premier League-winning side at the King Power in 2016, and has remained with the Foxes ever since.

The 37-year-old scored 20 goals in the Championship last season, and has signed a one-year contract to have another crack at the Premier League.

However, despite his impressive goal return, Smith thinks that he will likely be suited to playing off the bench.

He told Prime Casino: “Leicester need to add a few players to the squad that are of Premier League quality.

“At the back, when you look at [Jannik] Vestergaard and Wout Faes, you don't see that as a double act that's going to be good enough in the Premier League.

“Up top, Jamie Vardy can’t go on forever. He could still do a job as a sub and impact substitute, but Patson Daka and Kelechi Iheanacho, neither of them have really staked a claim and suggested they can score goals regularly at the top level.

“Leicester must be really canny in the transfer market like they were a few years back – they’ll need to produce some rabbits out of a hat, like they did when they signed N’Golo Kante and [Riyad] Mahrez.

“Those players were superb in the Premier League, and both of them came from nowhere really. It's not easy to do that, to find talent like that. Leicester need to strengthen, without question. I hope they can manage it.”
