Teddy Sheringham believes Gareth Southgate will want to take England to the 2026 World Cup if he wins Euro 2024.
Southgate can become the first England manager to claim the European Championship trophy this Sunday when England face Spain with continental glory on the line.
England booked their place in the final following a tense semi-final win over the Netherlands where they required a last-minute winner from Ollie Watkins.
That result means that Southgate has made it to back-to-back Euro finals and Sheringham, a former England striker, thinks Southgate will want to achieve more.
“If England win it, Gareth Southgate is going to want to stay on for the World Cup. Why would he not want to stay on and do that?” said Sheringham when speaking to OLBG.
“It’s his squad, his team, he’s nurtured them and shown his leadership qualities. People don’t like the way that we’re getting through but we’re into another semi-final and at the moment that’s all that matters.”
