England kicked off their Euro 2024 campaign on Sunday night with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over a resilient Serbia in Group D.
Jude Bellingham got the Three Lions off to the perfect start, netting a thumping header 13 minutes into the match, but England then failed to capitalise on the game and, by the end, were clinging onto their lead.
One man Gareth Southgate wasn't able to call on to change the game was Jack Grealish, who he axed from his final 26-man squad.
Talking to Poker Sites, former striker Teddy Sheringham spoke of his shock that the Manchester City maverick didn't make the final cut.
“I was very surprised at Jack Grealish being left out of the squad,” he said.
“He plays that position naturally, and has done all season for Manchester City, and although he didn’t have the best of seasons, he still draws defenders to him and can find the right pass at the right time.
"He opened up the game for Trent Alexander-Arnold to score the other day against Bosnia – that’s what he does. He knows how to play at that top level too, so I’m very surprised he won’t be there.
“When you think about how Marcus Rashford isn’t in the squad either, there seems to be a lack of left wingers in the squad now apart from Anthony Gordon. We’ll see what happens.”
