Former Liverpool star hopes Everton stay upEverton

Former Liverpool winger John Barnes hopes that Everton do not get relegated as a result of their points deduction.

The long-time rivals of his former club have struggled with their finances over recent seasons and this year they were hit with a points penalty for not meeting Profit and Sustainability Regulation, with Nottingham Forest also hit, and Manchester City facing many charges.

Speaking to Genting Casino , Barnes was troubled by the process.

He said: “The appeals process creates uncertainty for a number of teams at the bottom of the Premier League. I have a great deal of sympathy for Everton.

“Sympathy for the fact that the penalties don’t seem consistent, and nobody is sure how many points you should be docked for certain things, then you have Manchester City and all of their charges, but that hasn’t come to fruition yet. According to the Premier League, City have broken the rules, but they haven’t been charged yet.

“The consistency is not there in terms of clubs being treated equally. I don’t want Everton to get relegated. I want Everton to be in the Premier League because it’s great for the city of Liverpool. I have sympathy for them because it is not clear as to who gets what (the number of deducted points) and for what for.”
