The squad are one of the early favourites.

Former Manchester City and England full-back Danny Mills thinks that Gareth Southgate’s side will reach the semi-finals of Euro 2024 before being knocked out.

Many believe that England are the favourites going into the tournament in Germany, with players such as Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham ready to star after impressive seasons with their respective clubs.

Speaking to BetVictor, Mills is more measured in his appraisal and thinks their limit is the final four.

He said: “I think England will make the semi-finals. I hope they go further and get to the final. If they get to the final, they’ve got just as good a chance as any because momentum will be with them at that stage.

“I think it depends on the draw too, who you get. To win any tournament, you need a slice of luck. You look at the 2022 World Cup, Harry Kane missed a penalty against France - nobody expects that to happen. Even in the final, Kylian Mbappe doesn't have a shot on target for 80 minutes and then scores a hat-trick. You need something special to happen in games.

“I just look at the strength and depth across our squad. I hope it doesn't happen but I think we might just come up a little bit short, depending on who we draw and we go out at the semi-final stage.

“For Sunday, I think we'll beat Serbia. I think it will be relatively tight as both teams will be a little bit cagey as they don’t want to lose the first game - that is always a concern. But I think England will come out winners and I think they will win the game 2-0.”
