Jurgen Klopp’s shock announcement that he’s leaving Liverpool at the end of the season has led to wide speculation on who will replace the German manager.
Klopp was contracted to the Anfield club until 2026 but with Liverpool still in the hunt for four trophies this season, Klopp has admitted that the job has taken its toll on him.
Frontrunner to take over from Klopp is Xabi Alonso. The former Spanish midfielder, a Champions League winner with Liverpool, has excelled in his first senior management role with Bayer Leverkusen as they sit top of the Bundesliga.
Louis Saha, once of Manchester United, has lent his support for Alonso to be given the opportunity.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if the club are already working, or have already worked previously, on finding his replacement,” said Saha when speaking to Betfred.
“There are definitely some good names in the mix to replace Jürgen, but I would love to see [Xabi] Alonso come back, especially with the work he’s been doing at Bayer Leverkusen.”
