Has Erik ten Hag's recruitment failed?

Former Premier League manager Gordon Strachan has criticised current Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag's player recruitment. Since Ten Hag joined United, the Red Devils have spent significant money on several players.

Antony, Mason Mount, Casemiro and Andre Onana signed for Manchester United under Ten Hag's watch. United paid over £45 million for each player. And yet, some of these signings have struggled since moving to Old Trafford.

Brazilian Antony has faced severe criticism from fans and former players due to his ineffective play and lack of end product. Andre Onana has made costly errors, while Mason Mount has found it difficult to nail a place in the starting eleven. Meanwhile, Casemiro has faced questions over his on-field discipline and age.

Speaking to ICE36, former Coventry City and Southampton manager Gordon Strachan lamented Ten Hag's recruitment. Strachan said, "As a manager, you have to take the hit. You have to take the criticism."

"Especially if you’ve signed so many of the players – these are mainly his players now. The United board have bent over backwards to give him the players that he wanted, and what are the club showing for it? Absolutely nothing."

With United rock bottom of their Champions League, the pressure is ratcheting up on Ten Hag and his big-money signings.
