Robbie Savage has slammed Manchester United and insisted their season would still be a disappointment, even if they went on to win the FA Cup.
United scraped past Coventry last weekend to reach their second consecutive FA Cup Final, where they will once again face rivals Manchester City. However, in the league, they are out of contention for a top four place and pressure has been mounting on manager Erik ten Hag.
Speaking to Planet Sport Bet, Savage, who started his career at Old Trafford, doesn't think winning the FA Cup will save their season. However, he does believe that Ten Hag may get one more year in charge of the club.
“Even if United win the FA Cup, I don’t think this season could be considered a successful one for them,” said Savage.
“Their form in the Premier League and the number of games they’ve lost has shown no improvement from last season. The only caveat is that there is now a structure in place at the club and Erik ten Hag could thrive under it if he wins the FA Cup and stays on as manager.
“Their recruitment has been poor and the question of who was actually behind bringing some of those signings in is still there. With the structure in place and if they win the FA Cup then I personally think that they’ll give Erik ten Hag another season. They still have to actually beat Manchester City which won’t be easy and they didn’t look anywhere close to beating them last season. Even if they do win and finish sixth in the league, I still think this goes down as a disappointing season.”
