The summer of soccer continues as CONCACAF, the confederation representing the Caribbean and North and Central America, holds its biennial continental championship in the United States.
Hot on the heels of Euro 2020 and the Copa America, the Gold Cup will feature 16 teams — including guest Qatar, which is preparing to host next year's World Cup.
As per usual, Mexico and the United States are favourites to contend for the title as every previous edition of the Gold Cup, except one, has been won by the regional powerhouses. The lone team to break that duopoly is Canada, which comes into the 2021 competition with arguably its best team since that 2000 Gold Cup victory. Originally set to be led by Bayern Munich speedster and 2020 FIFA FIFPro Men's World11 member Alphonso Davies (who pulled out due to injury), the Canadians look to challenge an intentionally underpowered American side for supremacy of Group B.
